Should you have to pass a test in order to exercise your right to vote?

Alexander Hamilton felt that the strength of a democratic government relied heavily  upon the participation of an educated populace. He said,"The vote is too precious to be wasted on the ignorant." Given the political climate today and the wealth of information that we have access to, do you feel that his opinion still holds true? Do you think that a citizen of legal voting age should be required to pass a political competency test in order to exercises their right to vote?

  1. Our country was founded on the idea of freedom; therefore, I feel that every citizen should have the right to vote. I do, however, feel that it is the responsibilty of every citizen to educate themselves utilizing the plentiful resources that we have available. We have been afforded the luxury of having access to libraries and to other sources of information that we take for granted. People should take advantage of our resources in order to educate themselves about the issues at hand so they can make informed decisions when voting. In the spirit in which our forefathers created The Constitution, I think we should have been free and no one should be required to pass a test in order to vote.
